Findlay, Ohio - USA Blanchard Valley School is a very particular structure in a country where public welfare is limited in comparison to private and depends on individual wealthiness. The school admits children affected by at least two severe developmental disabilities from pre-school to high school. The main mission is to prepare individuals to take informed, responsible decisions through education and community partnership, allowing them to be as independent as possible. For those with better working skills the job might be done in regular structures in the community. Blanchard Valley School is at risk of closure because of the high costs for its maintenance and the relatively little number of families taking advantage of its programs. The attempt by the school board and staff is to communicate and advertise the contents and results of the school’s efforts to make the community more sensible and aware avoiding unfordable funding cuts, that would lead to closure.
